Axel Anklam, Line V, 2020, Epoxy, steel, 35 x 46 x 32 cm

Axel Anklam (*1971, Wrieze), formerly a master student at UDK Berlin under Tony Cragg, constructs sculptures based on circles and concave and convex swings. Membranes made of laminated epoxy resin, fiberglass or stainless steel gauze are welded and soldered into these form curves. The transparency of plastics or metal gauze with their matt, opaque or reflective surfaces create a unique interplay of light and reflection.

Anklam's sculptures show a perfect balance of surface, structure and volume, which seems to cancel out gravity. His sculptures change the surrounding space through their complexity, visibility and presence, they provide new ways, they create spaces or places. His work has been well received both nationally and internationally. In 2017, Axel Anklam received the Prize of the “Akademie der Künste” in Berlin and continually gets several commissions in public spaces.
