Todd Lanam – Mark Wolfe Contemporary, San Francisco
Born 1983 in San Francisco, California, USA
In this series of paintings, Todd Lanam explores the process of painting as it relates to the cognitive process of memory formation and recall. The nominal subjects are interior and exterior spaces that remain prominent in the artist’s memory. The renderings of these spaces, however, reflect the constant shifting, omission, distortion, and re-creation of visual memories within the broader context of consciousness. They strive to highlight the inherently transient nature not only of actual places in the physical realm, but of our internal experiences of them as filtered through constantly morphing memory.
