Rodney Dickson, the New York based North Irish artist, demonstrates the long-lasting charm of oil paintings and has had exhibitions or “Happenings” in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Hanoi, Beijing, Tokyo, Taiwan, and Saigon. In his early works, the frustration, the anger and the aggression imbibed from intense war in Northern Ireland fueled his art. Not until he started his Asian residency trip did he get rid of his depressed style of painting, transforming to a more informal or said formalist style. His works are all incredibly thick with obsessively built-up paint surface. Through the repetitive process, the artist is trying to reach a certain level of meditation, revealing something essential in life that transcends beyond painting.
