Galerie Youn presents Scarlett Rouge:
“Pulled by the threads and ageless tradition of mysticism and the power of symbols, my art practice is a fusion of my love of telling stories and metaphysics. Inspired by the teachings of Karl Jung and Joseph Campbell, I view the artist’s function as a form of modern day shaman.
As such, I consider my own mystical journey as the paramount yarn that conceptually knits all the different forms of art I utilize. They are expressions of the little treasures brought to the surface from my inner deep dark sea of which I devise allegoric compositions to communicate my vulnerability.
For me, art is also an anthropological discovery as well as a reflective gaze onto political discourse. Whether using the Internet as a platform for a performance, Sex, God, and Webcams, or by pondering age-old inquiries, ‘Is death the end of life? Who am I?’, illustrated in my videos, Magic Trauma Sprinkles, and Beyond the Walls of Eden, I fully use my position as an artist and social ‘outsider’ to observe the ties that lie between archaic and contemporary society.
Engaged in many forms of media: painting, sculpture, video, performance and installation, I often interlace various media together to create a dynamic tension and balance. In my process the concept comes first, the idea that determines the form of manifestation.
Nevertheless, these are all driven by an intuitive need to reconnect Spirit to Matter, by a longing to understand the true meaning of Love, and explore not only what things are made of, but also to uncover what is the invisible energy, the emotive drives, that propels their existences. “
