Ernest Jolicoeur: The ongoing narrative at the center of my work unfolds along a seam between the natural world and the built environment. There at the edge of the inhabited landscape lurks a continual development and erosion of form. Those hostile margins and dynamic thresholds feed my imagination as an image-maker.
Collage provides a hybrid space where various approaches to drawing, thinking and building coexist. The process of drawing, cutting and reassembling enables my work to openly expand and contract in response to the world around it. Through divisions of labor I take images apart, reconcile fragments and alter the physical form and visual content of each piece.
Renovation is a restless livelihood. Abstraction is an unsettled vocabulary. Together they embody the tension and liveliness I associate with a sense of place.
