dc3 Art Projects, Edmonton
For our inaugural participation at VOLTA NY, dc3 Art Projects is proud to present Tammy Salzl’s Storyland. Salzl is a visual storyteller based in Montréal, Canada who uses the familiar trope of children’s stories and fairytales to tell contemporary fables reflecting emotional and psychological complexities of modern life. For VOLTA NY 2017, Salzl will present a new suite of paintings and a single channel video, alongside small collaged paintings and an interactive mixed media sculptural installation, set inside a grassy, forested glade at dusk. Within the immersive environment, Salzl confronts human nature, morality, and struggles intrinsic to human existence. With no clear beginning, middle and end, the complexities that these stories present, like their fairytale predecessors, encourage the viewer to work through contemporary anxieties and make sense of the changes in the world around us.
Tammy Salzl is an Edmonton-born, Montréal-based artist who received her MFA in Painting and Drawing from Concordia University in 2014. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group shows in Canada, Germany, Mexico and the US. Salzl’s large-scale mixed media installation The Cleansing debuted at Circa POPOP in Montréal in 2015, and was presented as a Feature Project at Art Toronto 2015. Unfamiliar Selves, a collaborative exhibition with Jude Griebel recently opened at the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie in Grande Prairie, AB, Canada, and a solo survey exhibition will open in June 2017 at Two Rivers Gallery, Prince George, BC.dc3 Art Projects is a contemporary art gallery based in Edmonton, Canada that acts as a supporter, advocate, producer and promoter of contemporary art.
