Yuval Pudik

Born 1978 in Israel

Yuval Pudik's graphite on paper drawings and drawings cut-and-collaged; produce convincingly-rendered, surreal contortions of human figure; with a focus on costuming that envelops its subjects in morphological and psychological processes of becoming. From theatrical stage presences, like musician Freddy Mercury, to figures transformed beyond recognition, Pudik's crisply rendered chimeras inhabit a world of extreme appearance. Chris Fitzpatrick, in Art in America, writes of the subjects depicted in the artist’s recent drawings: “they are regenerative beings, sprouting symbolic imagery through displaced limbs that form intricate constellations in which jet engines and trees, bagpipes and megaphones, royal gowns, furs, bondage gear and gas masks coexist.”
