 1968, Düsseldorf, Germany
Based in Düsseldorf, Germany, Dietmar Lutz has exhibited internationally both in solo exhibitions and as part of the German art collective hobbypopMUSEUM. This is his first solo presentation in New York.
Aside from occasional watercolors on paper, Lutz only works on large paintings and their scale proclaims artistic decadence as much as their subject-matter. Cinematic in scope, Dietmar Lutz' decadent paintings add to the myth of the bohemian artist's sunshine-filled lifestyle.
In new and recent work a core subject matter has become the artist in the studio and exhibition venue. Paintings of paintings of paintings in architectural settings open up new vistas and reveal how Lutz sees his work _ as windows into another reality. The figure of the artist hovers in limbo between actual life in the studio and the fiction he creates on the canvas.
