Adam Dant Presented by: Hales Gallery 1967, Cambridge, United Kingdom
Specific New York public spaces are transformed in Adam Dant’s latest drawings for VOLTA NY. Overlaid with various mythologies and narratives, these embedded histories transform the city into a visual library of sub- conscious and collective beliefs. The Rockefeller Plaza incorporates medieval Italian stone towers whilst hosting an interpretation of the Promethean myth, the New York Public Library is brought to order by 18th Century Austrian equestrians and the Statue of Liberty acts as an armature on which to drape the history and aspirations of Republicanism in general. Dant was born in Cambridge 1967 and lives and works in London. His recent shows include Monuments and Menageries, Hales Gallery, Cult Fiction, Arts Council touring exhibition and Eye on Europe, MoMA, NY. His works are in the collections of MoMA, NY, The British Government Art Collection, UBS, Musée d’art Contemporain Lyon, V&A Museum and The Arts Council Collection, England, and San Diego Museum of Art, USA.
